Marches in Buckinghamshire – Banned by the County Council?
John has written to Bucks County Council to clarify the situation regarding marches by returning military personnel in the county. John is concerned by rumours that such events have been banned by the County Council following the protests against soldiers returning from duty in Iraq in Luton earlier this year.
He said,
“I am very concerned about this issue. I do not want to prejudge the County Council’s position. Our service personnel are currently doing a fantastic job in extremely challenging circumstances. The sacrifices made by our Armed Forces in the service of this country are nothing short of inspirational, and they ought to know that that they enjoy the sincere and wholehearted appreciation of the British population whom they serve.
Naturally any abuse directed towards our servicemen and women should be condemned. I would be troubled, however, to think that a ban on marches has been summarily introduced without evidence or consultation.”
