John Meets Buckinghamshire Mind

John recently met representatives from Buckinghamshire Mind to discuss their concerns about the removal of funding for counselling services in the county.

Carolyn Smyth, Chief Executive of Buckinghamshire Mind, said ‘We contacted Mr Bercow to seek his support for our request for a review of the provision of psychological therapies in the county. We were delighted to receive a very quick response and to have the opportunity for a detailed discussion. Buckinghamshire Mind wants to ensure that the people of Buckinghamshire are able to access a range of appropriate therapies.’

John said, “I applaud the work of Buckinghamshire Mind and I know what an enormous difference counselling services can make to people’s lives. I am very concerned about the future of funding for such support in our area. Short-term savings must not be achieved by inflicting pain on those who desperately need counselling. Effective mental health services must include a range of options, of which counselling must be one. I have written to the Primary Care Trust urging it to reconsider its position and I hope very much that a way forward can be found.”
