John Bercow has welcomed the latest report on HMP Spring Hill by HM Inspector of Prisons, Anne Owers. The report, which covers every aspect of the prison’s activities from arrival in custody to resettlement, rates HMP Spring Hill “an effective open prison”.

John said, “I am pleased to read that HMP Spring Hill has made significant improvements. The recent decision to house new categories of prisoner at the prison will inevitably have an impact, and I am mindful of the recommendations the Inspector makes for, among other things, more support for short-term prisoners and for enhanced accommodation. However, I pay tribute to the work of the prison’s staff and Governor.”
