John Bercow disturbed by pub closures
John Bercow is disturbed by the findings of the All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group’s analysis of pub closures since June 2005.
The study, which has been produced with support of the Campaign for Real Ale, the British Beer & Pub Association and market analysts, CGA Strategy, has found that in the last 4 years, 10 pubs have closed in the Buckingham constituency.
John said, “Traditional local pubs make an environment that tends to encourage responsible drinking and play an important role in our communities. At a time of economic uncertainty and rising costs across the board, for many people the cost of a pint at their local pub is becoming increasingly expensive.”
He continued, “The Government has only added to the pubs’ problems by increasing taxes and regulation. I support the ‘Save the Great British Pub’ campaign which aims to help the pub industry through this difficult time.”
